Gary Neville has explained on Sky Sports that he believes Hugo Lloris has blasted his own Tottenham Hotspur teammates this week.

Lloris publicly spoke of some home truths after Tottenham’s exit in the Europa League last Thursday.

The French stopper accused some of his teammates of lacking togetherness, while admitting that his side were failing to do the basics.

Immediately the comments raised alarm bells with Tottenham fans.

But Neville doesn’t feel that Lloris stepped out of line, and he thinks Spurs’ captain will have told a few home truths in the dressing room anyway.

“I don’t mind it. I think, ultimately, I suspect he’s said the same in the changing room,” Neville said.

“Particularly on a bad night like that I think you need people to come out like that and speak to the fans, to let them know that you care.

“Quite often you see players come out after a bad defeat and give us nothing, and when they do they should be encouraged.

“I think Lloris has built up the authority in that dressing room to get away with it.”

If Lloris’ comments were designed to spark a reaction from his Tottenham teammates then they had the desired affect.

Spurs ran out 2-0 winners over Aston Villa in their last outing, and their performance was much improved.

There is now some hope that Spurs could make a push for a top four place between now and the end of the season, but that will require them to find some consistency, which has been an issue throughout the campaign so far.
