Jamie Carragher has hit back at rival fans’ sneers towards Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, as quoted in The Telegraph.
The former Liverpool star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, made the comments while praising Everton.
Carragher believes that rival fans have no right to tell Everton supporters not to get carried away, with the Toffees having won all four of their Premier League games so far this season and playing wonderful football under manager Carlo Ancelotti.
The former England international has added that similar sneers were being made by rival fans towards Liverpool and Tottenham supporters not so long ago.
Carragher wrote in The Telegraph: “It was only 18 months ago I was making similar points about the bitterness directed towards The Kop. ‘Look at the state of them! What have they won?’ was the consistent jibe as supporters celebrated a series of epic wins while awaiting the first silverware.
“Even before he won a match Klopp prompted the same levels of hero worship at Anfield as Ancelotti at Goodison. Remember when supporters were tracking Klopp’s flight from Germany prior to his unveiling in 2015? Who was being accused of ‘getting carried away’ then?
“I felt the same about the criticism of Tottenham Hotspur fans who loved watching Mauricio Pochettino’s side, even though – to quote their sneering rivals – ‘he never won a trophy’.
Establishing Spurs as a Champions League side while playing a classy brand of tactical and technical football was worth the acclaim Pochettino received.”
Big season ahead
Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton all have a big season ahead, and it will be interesting to see how things pan out for the three clubs.
The Toffees are doing extremely well at the moment, and most observers would suggest that their main objective this season will be to challenge for the Champions League places.
Tottenham will also aim to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this campaign, while Liverpool will be determined to clinch the title once again.
