Jose Enrique has admitted that he had ‘never heard’ of Trent Alexander-Arnold when he was at Liverpool but shared that Alberto Moreno was raving about him.

The now-retired defender stated that Moreno told him, prior to Alexander-Arnold’s rise, that the Liverpool youngster was a ‘real talent’, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (22/07/20 at 9:30 pm).

Enrique left Anfield in 2016 – the same year Alexander-Arnold made his debut for his boyhood club, but it wasn’t for another couple of years before the England international became a regular.

Enrique was asked whether he had heard about this up and coming talent in Liverpool’s youth set-up, as he also shared what Moreno told him before his rise.

“To be honest, no,” Enrique told Sky Sports. “I asked Alberto Moreno about him when he was getting into the first team.

“I said ‘what you think about him?’ He said ‘this guy has real talent. Obviously then, it will depend on him in regards to how far he wants to go, but he’s a real talent’.

“But I never heard of him when I played there. It was four years ago, or five years ago when I left.”

Despite still being, 21, Alexander-Arnold, has already achieved what many professional footballers dream of achieving – being a Premier League and European Cup winner.

The best thing for the Englishmen, and Liverpool, is that there is still, at the least, decades worth of quality remaining from the attack-minded fullback.

Now that he has tasted winning the Premier League title. He will no doubt want to add more trophies to his cabinet.
