Speaking on Sky Sports News (16/6/21 9AM), Clinton Morrison has backed Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara to have a good season after a difficult debut campaign at Anfield.

It’s no secret that the Spaniard didn’t play his best football last season as Liverpool struggled due to a spate of bad injuries to key players, but Morrison believes we’re going to see the best of the former Bayern Munich man this time around.

What’s been said?

Morrison made a bold claim about Thiago, claiming that he’ll have a good season in 2021/22 after an underwhelming debut campaign in the Premier League.

“100% I think Thiago is a fantastic footballer, it took him some time and obviously Fabinho had to go into centre-half when his best position is in holding midfield, and Thiago had to move there, and I don’t think he covers ground like Fabinho does, but if you play him further up he can pick the passes, towards the season you saw the best of Thiago, I think it takes time to adjust, but with the injuries Liverpool had it was a struggling season for him, but I think this season Thiago will have a really good season,” Morrison said.

Big season ahead

Morrison might be absolutely right about Thiago.

You don’t become a bad player overnight, and we saw at times last season just how good the Spaniard could be for Liverpool.

As Morrison says, the injuries to the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson and Joe Gomez affected every aspect of Liverpool’s style of play, and that meant that Thiago’s influence was restricted.

Barring another injury-plagued campaign, the midfielder should be able to strut his stuff at Liverpool next term and show everyone what he’s all about.
