Andy Walker has told Sky Sports that Odsonne Edouard is much better than Newcastle United striker Joelinton.
The Scottish Mail reported in May that Newcastle were lining up a £25 million bid for the Celtic striker, with Steve Bruce a big fan.
And Walker feels that could be a bargain price to pay for a player of Edouard’s quality.
“Having watched Newcastle play a few times over the last 12 months, I believe Edouard is a better team player and goalscorer than Joelinton, and the Geordies paid around £40m for him,” Walker said.
“Virgil van Dijk and Victor Wanyama both had to go to Southampton from Celtic to prove they could cut it at the demanding level of the Premier League and, eventually, they went on to bigger and better things at Liverpool and Tottenham.
“Whilst hoping Edouard stays at Celtic for at least another season, he would prove to be a bargain for any of the big boys at the top of the Premier League if they took a chance and signed him now – he’s that good.”
Newcastle’s initial interest in Edouard was reported when their takeover was set to go through.
With the Magpies potential buying now backing out of the deal their transfer budget is set to be limited, and it remains to be seen if Edouard could still be a target.
The Celtic striker has carried on where he left off last season, after netting a hat-trick on his first appearance of the new campaign.
Newcastle badly struggled for goals last term, with midfielder Jonjo Shelvey ending the campaign as their top scorer, with just six strikes to his name.
