Speaking on the Sky Sports Football Podcast, Jamie Redknapp has been discussing Ryan Sessegnon after his first Premier League goal for Spurs.
Sessegnon’s season got off to an incredible start last week as he nodded in at the back post to equalise for Spurs against Southampton, and Redknapp believes that the young wing-back can now build on that platform.
Indeed, Redknapp says that you can’t put a price on the confidence an opening day goal gives you, and he’s expecting Sessegnon to kick on from here.
What’s been said?
Redknapp spoke about Sessegnon’s first goal of the season.
“The fact that he scored, there’s no reason why he can’t be a regular, Sessegnon, the experience and the squad depth of having Perisic there, but the fact he scored early in the season, the confidence that gives you, you can’t put a price on it, it’s happened so many times to players, to myself, to players around me who have started the season well. All of a sudden they have that belief,” Redknapp said.
Momentum
Sessegnon has all of the momentum in the world behind him after his opening day goal, and he has to make sure he continues playing at that standard.
Indeed, it won’t be long before Ivan Perisic is pushing for a starting spot at Spurs, and Sessegnon needs to make sure that he’s undroppable when that time comes.
Luckily, as Redknapp says, Sessegnon should be able to play with so much confidence now that he’s opened his Premier League account for Spurs, and if the defender is able to ride the crest of this wave for a few weeks, he may well nail down his spot on Antonio Conte’s best XI.
