Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Caoimhin Kelleher is ‘so calm on the ball’ for Liverpool, as he told Sky Sports Football.

The former midfielder questioned when Kelleher will play again for Liverpool because he is ‘too good’ to be a number two.

Over the weekend, Kelleher, 23, was one of the heroes at Wembley for the Reds when his spot-kick helped them win the EFL Cup final against Chelsea.

Both goalkeepers were outstanding on the day, with the drama-filled and action-packed 0-0 going to penalties and Jurgen Klopp’s side coming out on top.

Kelleher has been outstanding for his side throughout this competition, as Redknapp suggested that he needs to play on a regular basis.

“He’s so calm on the ball,” said Redknapp. “He has good distribution. He is a brilliant goalkeeper.

“The tough one for him in a few weeks time is that where is he going to play? He’s too good to be a number two.

“Jurgen Klopp deserves a lot of credit. He trusted him. And he got his rewards.”

Alisson Becker is Liverpool’s number one and Kelleher isn’t pushing ahead of him any time soon.

Liverpool are in domestic cup competition again, this time an FA Cup clash against Norwich and it will be interesting to see if Alisson is brought back into the fold.

There is no doubt that the Brazilian star is number one in the Premier League and Champions League, it’s just a case of whether Klopp will leave him on the bench for another game.

Even if Alisson is benched, as Kelleher proved at Wembley, he can more than hold his own.
