Sky pundit says he was wrong about one Liverpool player

Gary Neville has admitted to Sky Sports that he was wrong about Mohamed Salah.

The former Manchester United star has said that he did not think that Salah would be able to maintain his form from his first season at Liverpool.

Neville made the comments while reflecting on Salah’s performance for Liverpool in their 4-3 win against Leeds United at Anfield in the Premier League at the weekend, with the star scoring a hat-trick for the Reds.

Neville told Sky Sports: “There was a point in the game where I was watching Salah and I just thought, that is some player.

“Four years ago, when he first came to Liverpool and he got those 40-odd goals, I thought, ‘That’s a freak. He won’t be able to live with that’. But then he consistently produces over a period of two or three years.”

Salah scored 32 goals and provided 10 assists in the Premier League, and scored 10 goals and provided four assists in the Champions League in 2017-18, according to WhoScored.

During the 2018-19 campaign, the 28-year-old Egypt international forward scored 22 goals and provided eight assists in the Premier League, and scored five goals and provided two assists in the Champions League, according to WhoScored.

In 2019-20, Salah scored 19 goals and provided 10 assists in the league, and scored four goals and provided two assists in the Champions League, according to WhoScored.

World-class footballer

Salah has developed into a world-class footballer, and his finishing has improved a lot since the time when he was at Chelsea.

For Liverpool to win the Premier League title and the Champions League this season, the Egyptian will have to be on top of his game throughout the campaign.
