Ashley Williams wrote on Sky Sports’ Instagram page that Arsenal defender, David Luiz, has been ‘one of the best’ centre-backs in the Premier League over the last ten years.
A centre-back himself during his playing days, it’s quite clear that Williams admires another hard-hitting defender when he sees one.
And whilst Arsenal got the latter stages of Luiz’s career, the rest of his success, trophy-wise, came at Chelsea.
Although, some would question whether the Arsenal man, who is set to leave this summer, should be regarded as ‘one of the best’ during this last decade.
Whilst going forward Luiz has, on many occasions, been a joy to watch, he has also been called out for his error-prone ways.
But ex-Everton and Swansea defender, Williams, sees past that and thinks he has been top quality.
“David Luiz one of the best CB’s in the prem over the last ten years,” he wrote. “End of.”
Whilst Luiz’s mistakes have always haunted his career, one thing is for sure, his leadership qualities will be missed.
But Arsenal need refreshing throughout the pitch, including at the back, it’s only whether Mikel Arteta will be backed by those under-fire owners.
They have ended the campaign without any trophies and no European football after 25 years.
