It has been a season of change for Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon, who has gone from Manchester United to Brentford this season.

Even though Ange Postecoglou didn’t fancy his services at Hotspur Way in the summer, injury-hit Manchester United took him on a loan deal until January.

Sergio Reguilon then returned to Tottenham last month and was loaned straight back out to Brentford and he made his first start for Thomas Frank’s men against Manchester City on Monday night.

Even though the Bees opened the scoring, a Phil Foden hat-trick downed the London club, but Tottenham’s loan player got rave reviews for his performance.

Alan Smith stated that the 27-year-old ’slotted into the Brentford team like he has been there for three or four seasons’, as he told Sky Sports Premier League

The former Real Madrid star played 79 minutes before being replaced and receiving an ovation from his home fans.

Even though Brentford suffered a defeat, from Sergio Reguilon’s selfish perspective, this is a good start to life at the Gtech Stadium and he will be hoping there is more to come.

“Reguilon has slotted into this Brentford team like he has been there for three or four seasons,” said Smith.

“He is having a really good game tonight, the Spaniard – the fans appreciating their new signing. Why wouldn’t you?!”

Sergio Reguilon’s future at Tottenham

It’s pretty clear that his Spurs career is over, it’s just a case of trying to make a name for himself again whilst on loan and then securing a permanent move elsewhere.

Postecglou has a host of left-back to pick from at Spurs, so even if Reguilon impresses at Brentford, it might just see him sign on the dotted line for the Bees instead.

Either way, it hasn’t worked for him in north London, even though he arrived with high expectations on his shoulders from Real Madrid.

At the time, he was even earning caps for Spain, but the change from Jose Mourinho to Antonio Conte didn’t work in his favour.
