Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has suggested in The Scottish Sun that he does not think that Celtic manager Neil Lennon will pick Odsonne Edouard against the Gers this afternoon.

Celtic will take on Rangers at Celtic Park in the Old Firm derby in a few hours’ time.

It promises to be a hugely interesting and exciting Scottish Premiership game, even though there will be no fans inside the stadium.

Celtic boss Lennon has told The Daily Record that Odsonne Edouard is “tired” after spending a period in isolation.

It remains to be seen if the 22-year-old striker is ready to start against Rangers, and ex-Ibrox star Boyd – who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports – has given his take on the youngster’s situation.

Boyd wrote in The Scottish Sun: “I can’t see Christie being cleared to play although, with the SPFL, you just never know. But I’d pick Edouard even if he flew into Glasgow Airport at 10am. OK, so he’s been isolating in France after a bout of Covid-19.

“But, if the striker says he’s fit to play, I’d have him written down as the first name on my team-sheet. Edouard hasn’t set this season alight yet, I get that. He’s not looked the same player so far.

“Whether that’s down to something that’s happened in his private life or he’s had his head turned by transfer talk, who knows? But he’s a big-game player and the man the Rangers defence won’t want to be up against. If I’m being honest, I can’t see Lennon picking Edouard.”

Odsonne Edouard on the bench?

Edouard has not been in great form this season, but the 22-year-old has still scored four goals in seven Scottish Premiership matches, according to WhoScored.

If the 22-year-old is not match ready, then it would be better if Lennon starts him on the substitutes’ bench.

Edouard could come on for the final 30 or 20 minutes, and he could then make an impact on the Old Firm derby.
