Jamie Redknapp told Sky Sports Football (22/12/20 at 10:10 pm) that Shkodran Mustafi was trying to ‘blame’ others for the fourth goal Arsenal conceded against Manchester City on Tuesday.

It was another error-prone night for Arsenal’s £35 million signing [BBC Sport], who produced another questionable performance as the Gunners were knocked out of the League Cup.

Whatever changes Mikel Arteta does or doesn’t make, it always lands him in the same position and that’s responding to a defeat after the game.

When analysing the goals Arsenal conceded on Tuesday night, Redknapp noticed Mustafi trying to shift blame on others as he failed to deal with Phil Foden’s cross which was nodded home by Aymeric Laporte.

“Again leaders from Arsenal, who is taking responsibility?,” asked Redknapp. “People putting their arms up in the air. Who is going to be the person to actually head it?

“Mustafi, he’s trying to push out. Mark people behind you. How often have we seen him in that position with his arms up in the air trying to blame someone else? It’s not good enough.”

Mustafi has only featured in the cup games for Arsenal this season, as he is seemingly one of the players that Arteta could part ways with when given the chance.

When the January transfer window re-opens in a few days time, it will be interesting to see which players will be urging their agents to get them out of the club because it does happen.

Notting winning a league game since the start of November only results in one type of mood in the changing rooms and on the training pitch, and it’s not one you want to be a part of.
