Michael Dawson has lauded Newcastle United and West Ham-linked defender, Ben Mee, as a ‘very, very good’ player for Burnley.

The Sky pundit pointed out that Mee is out-of-contract at Turf Moor in the summer and how either Newcastle or West Ham could be a destination for the player.

A player of Mee’s experience, on a free, would be a boost to many teams needing depth in quality in England’s top-flight.

But, at the age of 32, would West Ham, who are chasing another season in Europe need a player like him? And is he the type of player Newcastle are looking for with their heavy pockets?

Either way, former Premier League centre-back, Dawson, certainly feels Mee will attract interest in the summer, as he told Sky Sports News.

“I just wonder where Ben Mee’s next destination might be,” asked host Jeff Stelling. “We know he is leaving at the end of the season.”

Dawson responded: “Well, he has been linked. There have been teams and Burnley have held their temptation to cash-in because they know how much money there is in the Premier League.

“His contract is coming to an end. There will be plenty of takers. You talk of Leicester being linked. West Ham linked. A free-agent. You look at Newcastle.

“He’s a player that you would want in your trenches. Never chucks a towel in and since he went there from Brentford, he has been very, very good. He’s a defender and puts his body on the line.”

It’s going to be interesting to see the pulling power both West Ham and Newcastle will have in the summer.

The Hammers should, once again in Europe, and possibly the Champions League if they are Europa League winners.

Whereas Newcastle, after years and years of struggle, can finally look forward in their quest to reach the top.

They have the big-money behind them, which in January, proved can be effective in luring some top talents to the club.

There’s no doubt that the Magpies are going to try and do the same, as wholesale changes will be made to that squad.
