Darren Bent told Sky Sports Premier League on Wednesday evening that Tottenham have ‘more of a shot’ of winning the League Cup on Sunday with Ryan Mason in charge than they would have done with Jose Mourinho.
The ex-striker feels that Mason is bringing that new managerial bounce into Spurs and that bit of uncertainty that could work in his favour.
Even though Mourinho has won 12 out of 14 finals, never lost in normal time and was the last man to beat Pep Guardiola in a final.
Bent thinks that the 29-year-old fresh-faced, Mason, has more of a chance of walking up those Wembley steps as the victor on Sunday.
“When you have a new manager,” said Bent. “He’s young and exciting. And untested and unknown.
“It might give them that little spark that people are unaware of what team he is going to pick. And how they are going to play. It might give them that edge.
“Listen, they are still underdogs against Manchester City. But I will give them more of a shot with Ryan Mason in charge than with Jose.”
Jamie Redknapp responded: “Who’d of thought that? Who would have thought we would say that?”

Well, it has been the perfect start for Mason, who perhaps cannot believe his luck, at this moment in time.
By the age of 29, he has not only made his debut for his boyhood club as a player but as a manager also.
And it’s going to get better for the midfielder because he will lead Spurs out at Wembley on Sunday… and if he wins then his reputation will sky-rocket beyond belief.
