Clinton Morrison told Sky Sports News on Wednesday morning that Everton fans are ‘a bit jealous’ of the success at Liverpool, as Farhad Moshiri continues to look for a new manager.
The ex-Crystal Palace striker was asked about Nuno Espirito Santo potentially becoming Everton’s next boss and urged the Toffees to get a deal done as quickly as possible.
Just like Tottenham, Crystal Palace and previously Wolves, those at Goodison Park have also been on the hunt for a new manager this summer.
Names far and wide have been bandied about, including that of Nuno following his departure from Wolves.
Morrison questioned what impact Nuno potentially arriving on Merseyside would have on someone like Duncan Ferguson, as he made a Liverpool claim that won’t sit well with the Everton supporters.
“It’s a difficult one because they have got big Duncan Ferguson there,” said Morrison. “And he earns a lot of respect.
“Nuno likes to bring all of his coaches with him, so will there be room for Duncan Ferguson? I am not saying that plays a massive part. But the work Duncan Ferguson has done, the development of a Calvert-Lewin, I think it has had a big factor.
“If they are going to get Nuno then they have to get him in early, so he can do his business.
“They are a big club. When you see across the road how well Liverpool are doing then Everton fans do get a bit jealous, so they want to be doing it. They will be moving into a new stadium. The potential is there for Everton, for whoever manages that football club.”
This is an uncertain time for Everton and one that wasn’t planned because Carlo Ancelotti’s exit was a surprise.
Many Everton fans were hoping that the trophy-laden Italian coach would guide them back into Europe and into their new stadium.
But that plan has been halted big time, and perhaps at the wrong time given all the stadium talk, as the likes of Moshiri now have to make this next appointment the absolute right one.
If they mess up here then it might just affect them in the long run and that’s the last thing they need as they prepare to move into new surroundings.
