Jamie O’Hara labelled Tottenham duo, Dele Alli and Bryan Gil, as ‘average’ following their performance during their side’s 1-1 draw against Southampton on Tuesday, as he told Sky Sports News (28/12/21 at 5:05 pm).
The former Spurs midfielder also hailed the ‘very impressive’ Antonio Conte for going seven Premier League games unbeaten since taking over from Nuno Espirito Santo.
After a number of homes games for Spurs, they were on their travels yesterday and they couldn’t overcome a Southampton side that were reduced to ten men before the half-time break.
Despite that man advantage, the home side did pretty well to secure a deserved draw against a Tottenham team that have been riding a wave with their new manager.
O’Hara feels that Conte will be ‘disappointed’ not to have secured all three points given the circumstances they were in yesterday, but they just lacked that bite in the final third.
“For me, I think Antonio Conte will be disappointed that they haven’t actually won the game,” said O’Hara.
“Southampton worked hard. They have everything. In the second half, they were resilient and they tried to stop Spurs.
“They didn’t have quite enough cutting edge to really put them away, which they probably should have.
“There were some average performances from Dele Alli and Bryan Gil, he come on and wasn’t great – but from the start of Antonio Conte’s reign, it has been a very impressive start.”
So far, under Conte, it has been a promising start for Alli, who was substituted just after the hour mark for Lucas Moura at St Mary’s.
The attack-minded midfielder didn’t have the impact he would have wanted yesterday, as speculation continues to mount about his future ahead of the opening of the January transfer window.
As for Gil, the summer signing just hasn’t seen enough minutes or showcased enough to stand out from the crowd when out on the pitch.
But he did earn around 15 minutes of action yesterday and he will be hoping that more minutes will come his way during these coming weeks.
