Paul Merson said on Sky Sports News (2:30pm, October 5, 2020) that Dele Alli should fight his way back into the Tottenham Hotspur starting lineup.
The former Arsenal star – who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports – said that at top teams, players need to fight for their places and not take things for granted.
Alli has been left out of matchday squads by Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho at times this season, and there was also speculation that he could leave this summer.
According to The Telegraph, Paris Saint-Germain wanted to sign the England international midfielder on a season-long loan deal.
However, with the summer transfer window now closed, the 24-year-old is set to stay at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Merson said about Alli on Sky Sports News (2:30pm, October 5, 2020): “He is at a top team, he is at a top team with top players and a top manager.
“He has got to fight himself back into the team. That’s what happens. When you are at a top club and playing in top teams, you only get two or three chances, and you are out of the team.”
