Paul Merson said on Sky Sports News (12:04pm, December 12, 2020) that he is worried about Leeds United.
The former Arsenal star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, made the comments about Leeds after watching them suffer a 2-1 loss at the hands of West Ham United at Elland Road in the Premier League on Friday evening.
Merson said on Sky Sports News (12:04pm, December 12, 2020): “I was sitting and watching it last night, and I am worried for Leeds. I am sitting there and watching, and everybody is used to playing against Leeds.”
The Englishman added: “I worry for Leeds now. I love watching them, but this is the problem – every neutral loves watching Leeds play because you know it’s going to be an open game, it’s going to be free-flowing, there’s going to be goals. That’s not good to Leeds.”
U-turn… again
Merson’s comments about Leeds come just two weeks after he said that he has changed his tune about the West Yorkshire club.
It was only last month when the former England international said that he had changed his stance about the Whites and was confident that Marcelo Bielsa’s side will not get relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
Merson said on Sky Sports News (12:43pm, November 28, 2020): “I think they are dangerous. I think they will cause problems as the season goes on. As the season goes on, I think teams will become more tired. I think they stay fit as they are now, I think they steamroll the teams.
“I don’t see them being in a relegation battle, no way. They are definitely one of the better teams in the top half of the table, in my opinion. I have changed my tune on them.”
Should Leeds United be worried?
West Ham were superior to Leeds on Friday evening and deservedly picked up all three points from the encounter.
The Whites do need to get better defensively, especially from set pieces. It was not so long ago when they conceded four goals against Crystal Palace and Leicester City in successive games in the Premier League.
