Former Arsenal man Charlie Nicholas believes that Tottenham’s recent unbeaten run has had ‘nothing to do with’ Jose Mourinho.

The Sky Sports pundit also pointed out three matches where Spurs got lucky of late, in a run which has left them fighting for a Europa League spot going into the final weekend of the season.

He said: “Spurs haven’t impressed me at all, but what they’ve done – and this is nothing to do with Jose Mourinho – is ground out results.

“They got a win against Arsenal and didn’t deserve it, a win against West Ham and I didn’t think they deserved that, they got a win at Newcastle, and I didn’t think they deserved that.

“But compliments to them, because they did it, and that’s how they’ve got themselves into this good place to qualify for the Europa League.”

It seems a strange thing for Nicholas to say. Tottenham are grinding out wins and that has Mourinho’s fingerprints all over it.

Getting victories against the run of play is a Mourinho forte and he will be more than pleased that his side still have something to play for in the final throws of the season.

Spurs should get the job done against Crystal Palace on Sunday. That means they will need Chelsea to take points off Wolves if they are to finish 6th.

This unbeaten run – which looked so unlikely when they lost 3-0 at Sheffield United – bears all the hallmarks of Mourinho.
