David James has claimed that Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son and West Ham’s Declan Rice are the ‘happiest footballers’, as he told the Football Show on Sky Sports.

The former England goalkeeper added that if there was an award for the ‘happiest footballer’, he’s not sure who would win it from the Spurs and West Ham duo.

Rice has become a popular figure, not just in the Premier League, but with England also over several years now.

From the improvements he has made to his midfield game and the leadership qualities he is showcasing at such a young age.

This is what James had to say about West Ham’s thriving 23-year-old and Tottenham’s flying forward from South Korea.

“Declan Rice, I love him,” said James. “We are talking about managers creating a great environment.

“Well, players have to have an influence on that as well. He is the happiest footballer.

“I tell you what, between him and Son. If there was the happiest footballer award, I am not sure who would win it.

“He (Rice) is the sort of guy you want in the changing room. With his playing talent as well, he is a sought-after player.”

Son had the biggest smile on his face when he wrote his name into the Premier League’s history books over the weekend – probably not when Spurs got knocked out of the FA Cup against Middlesbrough.

The Mauricio Pochettino signing has combined for the most goals, alongside Harry Kane (37), since 1992 in England’s top-flight.

The duo beat Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba’s record, which was of course set in Chelsea colours.

As for Rice, he will have an equally bigger smile if he can help West Ham to Champions League football or help put a trophy in their cabinet this season.

Or even both if they well and truly smack it out of the park.
