Jamie Redknapp has told the Pitch to Post podcast that Jose Mourinho and Joao Sacramento were fuming with Tottenham Hotspur’s Joe Rodon against Chelsea last weekend at one stage during the match.

Rodon waltzed down the field comfortably and released a Tottenham player, as he showed his skill in possession on his full debut.

However, the move was far too risky for Mourinho and Joao Sacramento’s liking.

And Redknapp, who was stationed by the bench, thought the moment rather summed up Mourinho’s mentality.

The former Spurs player really wants Tottenham to go out and attack Arsenal at the weekend, but Redknapp has his doubts over whether Mourinho will deploy such a risky strategy.

“You’d like to think they will have a go [against Arsenal], but I know the manager,” Redknapp said.

“I was sat right by the bench [against Chelsea] and there was a time where Rodon picked the ball up and had a dribble through the midfield and Gary and Martin Tyler were like ‘that’s good to see’.

“But Jose and his assistant got out [of their seats] and I’ve never anything like it. It was like that time when he said Sterling should have been booked, and Jose starting running. It was exactly the same as that.

“He was fuming that the defender had vacated that space.”

Rodon could well start again for Tottenham at the weekend, although Toby Alderweireld is back in training.

The Belgian defender appears to be ahead of schedule in his return from injury, and now has a chance of featuring on Sunday.

If Alderweireld is deemed fit then he is likely to start over Rodon.

However, if the experienced central defender doesn’t make it, then £15 million summer signing Rodon (Sky) seems the most obvious choice to come into Tottenham’s defence alongside Eric Dier again.
