Leroy Rosenior has claimed that Joe Gomez just wanted to ‘fight everybody’ as Liverpool suffered a damaging 4-1 defeat to Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
It was a game to forget for the majority of the Liverpool players in Naples, and no more so than Gomez, who was hooked off at half-time by Jurgen Klopp and replaced by Joel Matip.
That didn’t help matters because, within minutes of the restart, the home side were putting goal number four into the back of the net.

Some Liverpool fans would have had flashbacks of their 7-2 defeat to Aston Villa a number of seasons ago, when both Van Dijk and Gomez started that game also.
They haven’t started many games together since then, because both suffered long-term injuries, but the current signs they are showing aren’t too great.
Former West Ham striker Rosenior thinks the Reds benefit from having Matip at the back because of his ‘experience’, as he told Sky Sports News.
“Matip is more experienced and he gives himself an extra yard,” said Rosenior. “Gomez just wanted to fight everybody and he just got outmuscled by Osimhen.
“But because Matip is that more experienced, he doesn’t want to get into too many fights and Trent just looks more secure when Matip is on the pitch as well.
“I feel for Joe Gomez because he was an outstanding prospect and he has had some injuries. And, at the moment, he is nowhere near the form. Matip is the better option.”

IS GOMEZ’S FUTURE SPOT IN DOUBT?
Despite hardly playing last season, in comparison to the number of games Liverpool played, Gomez was still a sought-after player during the 2022 summer transfer market.
But rather than the Reds allow the defender to leave, he penned down a new long-term contract, but does his recent performances change that?
Matip and Van Dijk have been the best pairing for Klopp in recent times, whilst the currently injured Ibrahima Konate has also pushed ahead of Gomez.
Added to his performances, it will be interesting to see just how many games Gomez does start because it wouldn’t be a surprise if it starts to limit during these coming months.
