Neil Mellor thinks Caoimhin Kelleher is ‘getting better all the time’ at Liverpool, as he told Sky Sports News (01/03/22 at 9:05 am).

It was put to the former Liverpool player whether Kelleher could leave in the summer, given his recent performances, but Mellor thinks he will get the game time at Anfield.

On Sunday, Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Chelsea in the League Cup final, with Kelleher producing a standout performance and remarkably scoring the winning penalty in the shootout at Wembley.

At 23-years-old, and given the performances he is putting up, Kelleher is proving to be too good to be a number two.

Despite that, Mellor still doesn’t think the ice-cool shot-stopper will leave in the summer.

On interest in Kelleher: “Maybe, I am sure that would have been the case in the previous summer as well,” said Mellor.

“What I would say is that there is a real harmony in the Liverpool goalkeeping department. Alisson is clearly the number one and one of the best keepers in the world.

“But Kelleher is learning and he is getting better all the time. He knows he will get game time and it may be is limited.

“When the next game comes around, Norwich in the FA Cup and then West Ham, then Alisson will be the number one choice and brought back in for that.”

It will be interesting if Kelleher keeps his place in the XI ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup clash against Norwich on Wednesday night.

For EFL Cup and FA Cup games, the Irishman has been handed the number one goalkeeping gloves by Klopp.

But it’s pretty clear that Alisson Becker is the main man between the sticks and he’s not going to be disposed any time soon.

Come the summer, if Kelleher continues to shine, it will be interesting if anyone knocks on his door, whether to take him on loan or on a permanent basis because he is more than good enough to be a number one at another Premier League club.
