Tim Sherwood thinks Jesse Lingard knows that Manchester United won’t allow him to join West Ham before Monday’s deadline, as he told Sky Sports (29/01/22 at 2:15 pm).
Last January, whilst in the wilderness at Old Trafford, Lingard moved to the London Stadium and showcased to the world what he is all about.
Even though the goalscoring midfielder had spent little time on the pitch before signing for West Ham, he didn’t need any time to settle in as he netted a brace on debut against Aston Villa.
Lingard’s performances helped the Hammers to Europa League football and now they need a nudge in their race for Champions League football.
But the problem for David Moyes is that his old club, Manchester United, are battling them toe-to-toe in that race for a top-four spot.
So, unless West Ham put in a stupid amount of money for Lingard, then there’s no way he is heading back to east London.
Former Premier League midfielder, Sherwood shared his thoughts on Lingard’s future and Man United seemingly wanting a large loan fee if the ‘fantastic’ player were to leave.
“I think it’s Man United saying ‘we have mis-managed it and we are in a situation now where we are trying to scramble as much money as we possibly can for a really good asset’,” said Sherwood.
“They don’t want to use him. That’s quite clear. When he went to West Ham, he was a brilliant signing. He was fantastic for them.
“If I am Jesse Lingard or I am his representative, then I am telling him to sit where he is.
“As much as I want players to go out there and play football, I think Jesse should say ‘yes, I will go to Newcastle but I am not sure they are going to give me to West Ham because they are challenging for the same prizes as Man United’.”

If Lingard leaves Old Trafford before Monday’s transfer deadline, then Newcastle might just be his next stop.
Sky Sports have reported that, even though Lingard possibly moving to St James’ Park seems dead in the water over a disagreement over a loan fee, you should ‘never say never’.
West Ham will be kicking themselves that last January they didn’t push to have some sort of clause in the Englishman’s contract where they could purchase him long-term.
If Lingard was donning the claret and blue colours until the end of the season, then it would seriously increase Moyes’s chances of guiding the club to fourth spot.
So, if he moves to Newcastle, then it’s pretty obvious that their relegation rivals will fear that Eddie Howe’s men will get over that dotted line of survival.
