Tim Sherwood has stated that Everton boss Rafa Benitez is ‘perfect’ for the Newcastle manager’s job, as he told Soccer Special on Sky Sports (03/11/21 at 7:20 pm).

The Sky pundit claimed that Benitez moving to Newcastle would ‘please both sets of fans’ because the Everton faithful have ‘turned against him’.

After a bright start to the season, Everton have hit a few bumps on the road, including losing to Wolves last time out and conceding five at home to newly-promoted Watford.

In the meantime, over in the North East, those in the St James’ Park boardroom are still looking for a new face to replace Steve Bruce.

It didn’t help matters when Unai Emery turned down their advances on Wednesday, but they have no time to dilly-dally because they are winless and sitting in the relegation zone.

From winning the Champions League with Liverpool, to being in relegation battles with Newcastle, Benitez has been on both ends of the scale, hence why Sherwood thinks he is the man for the job.

“Rafa Benitez is the man,” said Sherwood. “I think he’s the perfect man. He has been there when they have struggled.

“And he has been to top teams where they have spent money and he has been successful. Two birds with one stone.

“Not only that, he pleases both sets of fans. I think he pleases the Newcastle fans and I think he pleases the Everton fans.

“They have turned against him. They aren’t happy with what they are watching, at the moment.”

At any time the Toffees were going to go through a bad spell, which they are now, it was obvious that Benitez’s pastimes as Liverpool manager were going to be brought up.

That doesn’t hide the possibility that they could still well and truly turn on the Spaniard if results continue to head in the wrong direction.

But Benitez just isn’t the type of individual to leave a club in such a situation, even if he suits this current Newcastle role down to the bone.

That’s where the Magpies are slightly unlucky because if this Saudi-led takeover happened in the summer, then it wouldn’t have been a surprise if Benitez was actually brought back.
