Kris Boyd has said on Sky Sports Football (11:45am, May 2, 2021) that Brendan Rodgers changed the way Celtic fans view Scott Brown.

The former Rangers striker, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has said that many Celtic fans thought that Brown was past his prime before Rodgers was appointed the manager of the Hoops in the summer of 2016.

The Scottish midfielder – who has been on the books of Celtic since the summer of 2007 when he joined from Hibernian for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £4.4 million – revived his career at Celtic Park under the former Liverpool manager and helped the Bhoys win trophies after trophies.

Brown played in his final Old Firm derby against Rangers on Sunday, as the 35-year-old will leave for Aberdeen as a player-coach at the end of the season.

Boyd said about Brown on Sky Sports Football (11:45am, May 2, 2021): “I think Brendan Rodgers saved his Celtic career as well because it totally changed a lot of Celtic fans’ perception. ‘It was time up then, time to move him on, get younger players in’. He has been excellent in the last few years as well, but a lot of that is down to the impact Rodgers had on him.”

Big miss for Celtic

Brown is 35 now and is clearly not the player he was a few years ago, but the Scotsman will still be a big miss for Celtic.

The veteran midfielder is a leader in the dressing room, and his influence will be missed by the Hoops.

Celtic have failed to win the Scottish Premiership title this season and will be determined to reclaim the crown from bitter Old Firm rivals Rangers in 2021-22.
