Jermaine Beckford told the Football Show on Sky Sports (09/02/21 at 10:10 am) that Patrick Bamford’s ‘selfless’ ways are resulting in Leeds United playing ‘unbelievable’ football.

Leeds’ number nine is shutting a lot of people up this season because he had his critics in the Championship last season, but he is now sitting on 12 Premier League goals.

More than likely, he will surpass the 16 he hit during Leeds’ promotion campaign, which is some rise from the one-time Chelsea academy product.

“I have been a massive fan of Pat’s since he signed a couple of years ago,” said Beckford. “Just because of his work rate. His overall work rate.

“It’s perfect for the way Leeds United play and operate. He’s such a selfless player. He makes moves into channels and drops deep. And vacates the forward positions to leave opportunities for other players, i.e Dallas, Klich, Raphinha and Jack Harrison.

“But everything he offers Leeds United, outside of him just scoring goals, created this unbelievable style of football which we are fortunate to watch this season.

“Rightly so, people were asking questions of Patrick Bamford’s quality in the Premier League because in his very first stint I don’t think he scored in the Premier League.”

England will be returning to international action once again next month and Bamford will be hoping Gareth Southgate has his number.

There is a great chance that he will be joining his Leeds teammate Kalvin Phillips at St George’s Park, especially if he continues to find the back of the net.

There’s no doubt that Bamford has serious competition ahead of him, but only Harry Kane and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are ahead of him in the pecking order in terms of Premier League goals scored this season.

The Leeds man is sitting on 12, whilst the Three Lions skipper is on 13, as well as the already-capped Everton star, Calvert-Lewin.
