Paul Merson said on Sky Sports News (1:02pm, September 26, 2020) that he was wrong about Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford.

The former Arsenal and Aston Villa star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has admitted that he did not think that Bamford would do as well as he has done in the Premier League so far.

According to WhoScored, the former Chelsea and Nottingham Forest striker – who cost the Whites £7 million in transfer fees when they signed him from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2018, according to Sky Sports – has scored two goals and provided one assist in two Premier League games for Marcelo Bielsa’s side so far this season.

Merson said about Bamford on Sky Sports News (1:02pm, September 26, 2020): “He has proved me wrong so far, if I am being honest. I didn’t see it. I know it’s early.”

The Sky pundit added: “He has proved me wrong so far. Can he do that for the rest of the season? Only time will tell.”

Proving doubters wrong

Bamford scored 16 goals and provided two assists in the Championship last season, while in 2018-19, the Englishman scored nine goals and provided two assists in the Championship, according to WhoScored.

While one can argue that the 27-year-old does take too many chances to score, there can be no denial that he is a very good goalscorer who is doing well in the Premier League at the moment.
