According to Sky Sports (Transfer Live blog, 4:28pm, October 16, 2020), Tottenham Hotspur and Swansea City are ‘still far away in terms of a valuation’ regarding Joe Rodon.
Tottenham are interested in signing Rodon from Swansea before the summer transfer window in England closes at 5pm today, according to the report.
Although Wolverhampton Wanderers central defender Ryan Bennett is in south Wales to undergo a medical at Swansea as a potential replacement for Rodon, Spurs and the Swans still have not agreed on a transfer fee for Rodon, according to the report.
According to an earlier report in The Daily Mail, Tottenham’s bid of £7 million for the 22-year-old has been rejected, with Swansea looking for £18 million as transfer fee.
Race against time
With just minutes left before the window closes, it seems that Tottenham are in a race against time in regard to signing Rodon.
Swansea are aiming to win promotion to the Premier League, and if they do not sell the Welshman, then it is only going to strengthen their chances of finishing in the Championship top six this season.
As for Spurs, the North London outfit could do with a promising and young centre-back such as Rodon who could develop and become better in the coming years.
Update: At 4:54pm, Sky Sports (Transfer Live blog October 16, 2020), reported that Tottenham and Swansea are close to agreeing a deal. TalkSPORT (Transfer Live blog, 4:59pm, October 16, 2020) stated that Spurs have agreed to pay Swansea £15 million plus add-ons for Rodon.
