Well, Gabriel Martinelli has reminded Arsenal supporters that he is absolutely brilliant.

Okay so the majority of Gunners fans didn’t need a reminder, but the 20-year-old Brazilian has been relatively dismal over the past two years.

However, Martinelli is springing to life again in a major way these past few weeks and his performance for Arsenal tonight was more evidence that the North Londoners have a gem on their hands.

The South American sensation scored a first-half brace in a one-sided victory away to Leeds United – who had to name a 15-year-old in the squad due to depleted options – this evening.

He opened the scoring by viciously curling one beyond Illan Meslier, before then dinking the French goalkeeper shortly after following a defence-splitting ball from Granit Xhaka.

One Arsenal supporter – no doubt tongue-in-cheek – suggested on Twitter that Martinelli was better than Thierry Henry, the Emirates Stadium club’s record goalscorer and biggest icon.

And here’s another former Gooner and Sky Sports commentator Alan Smith responded to the fan.

Better than Henry?

Well, no, but there’s undeniable similarities.

When Martinelli is motivated and playing well, he can be as electric as the legendary Frenchman and his nonchalant finishing skills is bound to draw further comparison.

However, you could argue that the Premier League hasn’t seen a player like Henry since the man himself last played in this competition back in 2012, so the odds of somebody at the same club being his heir apparent is, well, unlikely.
