Jalen Brunson has spent recent years as one of the NBA’s most underrated stars.
Now that he has guided the New York Knicks to a championship, the praise has finally arrived, with debates growing over his place among the greatest Knicks and guards of all time.
Skip Bayless, instead, has focused on his present status. The veteran sports commentator, known for his bold television debate takes, placed Brunson above every current NBA star.
Skip Bayless says Jalen Brunson is the NBA’s best player right now

Speaking on Gil’s Arena on Monday, Bayless stated that Brunson’s Finals performance proved he is the best player in the league today.
“What he proved to me in this series is that he’s the best player in the National Basketball Association right here, right now,” the commentator began by saying.
“I mean, he just showed, he did it. He did that against that team and that guy. I give it up, man. You got to say here, you showed, you earned best player in the league status and you earned better than SGA status with those five fourth quarters that you played against seven-foot-six [Victor Wembanyama]. That’s what happened. So, congratulations to him,” he concluded.
The comment is striking because Brunson was not even central to the regular-season MVP debate.
He averaged 26 points, 3.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists, but names such as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, Victor Wembanyama, Cade Cunningham and Jaylen Brown all carried louder MVP noise at different points.
The postseason changed everything. Brunson went from respected star to championship closer, and Bayless has rewarded that rise with the biggest label possible right now.
