Zenit reportedly put off by Celtic’s valuation of Kristoffer Ajer

Kristoffer Ajer has reportedly attracted interest from Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg but Celtic’s stance could see them retain the Norwegian.

According to a report from Russian outlet Championat, Celtic’s valuation of Kristoffer Ajer has put off Zenit St Petersburg to the point that they might not pursue the player anymore.

Ajer has made quite a name for himself in the Scottish Premiership over the last two years and he has been a key a part of Celtic’s side in their last two treble wins.

The young defender’s performances have reportedly attracted interest from Russia, with Zenit St Petersburg entering into talks with the Hoops for the Norwegian. However, Celtic’s demands have allegedly left the Zenitchiki unwilling to pay the big bucks this summer and he is likely to stay put.

The report reveals that Zenit’s higher-ups have decided to give up on the transfer which is a massive boost for Celtic who will now have Ajer at least until the January transfer window.

The Norweigan has already played 89 times for the Hoops and has 10 international caps which is incredible for someone who is only 21.

With Celtic looking for a historic league win at the end of this season, Ajer will again play a massive part in their defence and Neil Lennon should be delighted with him staying, especially after already having lost Kieran Tierney earlier this summer.

The Hoops playing hardball in negotiations dragged Tierney’s transfer saga until the very end of the transfer window but Arsenal finally managed to agree to their terms on the final day. The same hard negotiations have now allegedly helped them retain the services of Ajer whose price will only go up in the coming transfer windows.
