Matty Longstaff stole all the headlines for Newcastle against Manchester United but Fabian Schar was quietly brilliant yet again.

Steve Bruce and Newcastle United pulled off an incredible victory against Manchester United on Sunday thanks to a stunning strike from 19-year-old Matty Longstaff on his Premier League debut.
The 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Leicester City last weekend was fresh in the memory of fans and players and with Isaac Hayden suspended, there was little hope for a positive result. However, Newcastle bossed the game at times and were deserved winners despite having had to absorb a ton of pressure from the Red Devils.
Longstaff will deservedly take all the plaudits for his fantastic debut but one player who stood out at the back was Fabian Schar. The Swiss international has always been a consistent performer for Newcastle and his numbers against Manchester United proved yet again why he is one of Steve Bruce’s most important players.
Schar made the most clearances on the pitch with seven, intercepted four times, made two good tackles and won seven out of his 13 duels.(SofaScore) His partnership with Jamaal Lascelles was incredible under Rafa Benitez and if his form continues, Newcastle could easily lose him in the January transfer window.

Despite the brilliant result, Newcastle are stuck in 16th and are averaging just one point per game so far. The Magpies are well and truly in a relegation dog fight and a player of Schar’s quality could soon become an attractive option to a number of bigger clubs in the Premier League as well as in Europe.
The number of quality centre-halves in today’s transfer market is incredibly low and the ones who are available would cost an exorbitant amount of money. Schar will have just 18 months left on his current deal at Newcastle in January and if the Magpies remain in and around the drop zone, he could well move on to a better club.
