Everton boss Marco Silva is allegedly close to facing the sack after a disappointing start to the Premier League season.
Moyes’ managerial career has gone downhill ever since he left Goodison Park in 2013, 11 years after being appointed as Everton’s boss. The Scot led the Toffees to a top-four finish in 2005 and managed the Toffees particularly well during his tenure.
However, times have changed since his departure, with Everton now keen on European qualification. Marco Silva, despite considerable investment in the summer, has struggled and a new manager could also face the same difficulty with the Toffees stuck in 18th.
Appointing Moyes will certainly not be a popular choice among most supporters but he could prove to be a very good temporary solution. The last thing Everton can afford now is more time for the new manager to settle in and make the players embrace his philosophy.
With tough games coming in thick and fast over the next three months, that could push Everton deep into trouble if results fail to go their way with a new manager. Moyes, who knows Everton very well having spent over a decade there, would bring stability to the club which is exactly what they need at the moment.
A decent season which would see Everton there or thereabouts seventh position in the league table would be deemed successful after the kind of start they have had. Everton could experiment a bit more at the end of the campaign with regards to a new manager who will have the whole pre-season to work with the players.
Rushing with a new manager who has a completely different philosophy could easily backfire for Everton this season. With the Premier League as tough as it is, there is very little margin for error and Moyes is certainly the safer bet, at least until the end of this season.
