Arsenal have a huge transfer window ahead of them after missing out on the top-four and Unai Emery has to address the problems at left-back.

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the signing of Hoffenheim’s Nico Schulz on a long-term contract which runs to the summer of 2024.

The Black and Yellows already had Marcel Schmelzer and Raphael Guerreiro capable of playing at left-back and Schulz’s signing could potentially allow them to offload one of the pair.

Guerreiro has had an impressive season for Dortmund, having featured in more than one position. The Portuguese international has had a troubled time with injuries over the last few years which has at times left Dortmund with very little cover.

However, when fit, Guerreiro is a fantastic player who has the ability to change games on his own and Arsenal should use the small opportunity that has come up to swoop in with a bid for the former Lorient man.

The Gunners have had their problems at left-back with Sead Kolasinac’s inconsistency. Nacho Monreal has been shifted to the centre of defence, but the Spaniard’s contract with the club expires at the end of this season. This makes the need for a new left-back a massive priority and Guerreiro would be a fine fit at the Emirates.

The 25-year-old would give Unai Emery a ton of options next season thanks to his ability to play anywhere along the left flank as well as in central midfield.

The Portuguese international is not short of top-level experience, having played over 200 games in the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 so far.

Guerreiro would massively bolster Arsenal’s attack, which has lacked width at times this season. His ability to score as well as create chances would be a massive boost to this Gunners’ squad, having been heavily reliant on their two strikers.

The Portuguese’s attacking prowess often makes people forget about his defensive skills. His positioning when he starts as a left-back is brilliant and he uses his pace to get back from advanced areas of the pitch to provided much-needed cover to his defence.

Arsenal could solve multiple problems if they can manage to sign Guerreiro in the summer and Emery should explore this option in the coming months.
