Nicholas says Tottenham’s Eriksen looked out of sorts against Southampton

Charlie Nicholas has questioned Christian Eriksen’s performance at the weekend for Tottenham Hotspur.

Charlie Nicholas spoke to Sky Sports about Tottenham’s chances against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Spurs got back to winning ways against Southampton at the weekend thanks to goals from Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane. Pochettino’s side have been questioned time and again so far this season but the win with 10 men against the Saints should bring back the confidence within the team.

Former Arsenal star Charlie Nicholas was asked about his prediction for the Tottenham’s big game against Bayern Munich in the Champions League and the Sky Sports pundit had doubts over one Spurs player in particular. Nicholas claimed that Christian Eriksen didn’t look like himself against Southampton but backed Tottenham to get a result against the German champions.

“Harry Kane was clinical again and does what he does but Christian Eriksen looked so out of sorts. Mauricio Pochettino seemed as if he might have lost the dressing room but the Saints game was a springboard victory for Tottenham with 10 men,” he said.

Speaking about the game against Bayern Munich, he said: “Bayern Munich are not as good as they once were and you can get at them – they rely heavily on Robert Lewandowksi. Philippe Coutinho got his first goal at the weekend and ex-Arsenal man Serge Gnabry is performing well but I’m going for a draw. This will be a result that Tottenham will be happy with.”

Eriksen hasn’t quite got the game time that he would have liked so far this season. The Dane has started just four times so far this season and has one goal and an assist to his name. The 27-year-old, since the 13th of April, has managed just three goals and two assists in the league for Tottenham.

That is a terrible return for someone of Eriksen’s calibre and he will be looking to set things straight against Bayern should he get a chance from the start. With less than a year left on his contract, the distraction could be playing a part on his form but he has proved that he has the ability to change the game for Spurs when given proper game time.
