Tottenham Hotspur’s Juan Foyth is in contention to start at right-back against Watford on Saturday.
Tottenham Hotspur and Mauricio Pochettino are under serious pressure to get a win after crumbling to a 3-0 defeat to Brighton before the international break. Spurs have conceded 10 goals in their last two games; a shocking record for a team trying to compete with Liverpool and Manchester City.
The North Londoners are desperate to get back into winning ways and they have a huge opportunity this weekend against a winless Watford side. However, the Hornets recently troubled Spurs’ fierce rivals Arsenal by coming back from two goals down to draw the game 2-2 and their attack should not be taken lightly.
Right-back has been an area of massive concern since the departure of Kieran Tripper to Atletico Madrid earlier this summer. Serge Aurier, Kyle Walker-Peters, Moussa Sissoko and even Eric Dier have all been used by Pochettino in the past but he is yet to find the right player.
Young Juan Foyth has returned from injury and started both Argentina’s games during the international break at right-back. This gives Pochettino a welcome option ahead of their game against Watford this weekend but it could seriously backfire.
Tottenham’s right-back on the day will most likely come up against Gerard Deulofeu. The Watford attacker tormented Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles in Quique Sanchez Flores’ first game in charge since returning to Vicarage Road and he could well do the same against Foyth, who has only recently returned to full fitness.
The Spaniard’s pace and dribbling skills have the ability to trouble the best of defenders on his day and he could cause serious problems to Spurs’ back line. Foyth, who is yet to feature in the Premier League this season, will feel the heat against Deulofeu which makes it a huge risk for Pochettino to give him the nod ahead of Aurier on Saturday.
