Watford’s Gerard Deulofeu was the subject of interest from foreign clubs but the former Barcelona man has rubbished rumours of him leaving the club.

The Evening Standard quoted Gerard Deulofeu’s thoughts ahead of the new season and the Spaniard confirmed that he is happy at Vicarage Road.

Calciomercato claimed at the end of May that Deulofeu would return to AC Milan ‘in a heartbeat’ while the same outlet claimed last month the fellow Serie A side Napoli are also interested in signing the former Barcelona and Everton man.

However, Deulofeu has ended all the speculation by claiming that he feels at home in Watford ahead of the start of the new season. The 25-year-old had a career-best return of 12 goals and five assists in all competitions last season but he believes that he can get more this time around.

“In all teams where I have been I didn’t stay for a lot of time, so every time I travel to Milan, Everton, Sevilla, Barcelona,” said Deulofeu. Now I feel comfortable here. The first season I suffered a little bit but finally I adapted to Watford and I enjoy it here,” said Deulofeu.

He continued saying: “I scored a lot of goals to help the team last season. I hope this season I score more than 12 goals because I can score more. I feel the type of player like me, I can score more goals. But the best thing is to help the team take three points and to achieve something special with Watford.”

The Hornets and Wolves were neck and neck for most parts of the campaign but a poor end to the season dropped Javi Gracia’s side out of the top ten. Deulofeu is determined to get them back on track and if he can manage as many goals as he did last season, if not more, Watford cold well aim for a seventh-placed finish.
