Everton should consider signing Arsenal’s Calum Chambers

Everton are yet to replace Kurt Zouma who was on loan from Chelsea last season and Phil Jagielka who has now joined Sheffield United this summer.

Everton’s chances of signing Kurt Zouma took a massive hit after Frank Lampard was quoted by Chelsea’s official website saying that he wants to keep him for the upcoming season.

Zouma was an integral part of Marco Silva’s side last season and it is no secret that the Toffees would have wanted him back on a permanent deal. The Frenchman played 32 times in the Premier League for the Toffees but a new manager at Chelsea in addition to their transfer ban could open the door for Zouma to kick start his career at Stamford Bridge.

Everton will need to look elsewhere to replace Zouma and former captain Phil Jagielka who has also departed the club in this transfer window. A young mobile defender who will suit Marco Silva’s style will have to be the priority and Arsenal’s Calum Chambers could be a very smart signing.

The Englishman spent last season on loan at Fulham where he was voted as the club’s player of the season. Chambers put his versatility to brilliant effect last season at Craven Cottage where he was deployed as a centre-back as well as in central midfield.

Idrissa Gueye’s future at Goodison Park is still up in the air and losing him will be a massive blow for the Toffees for whom he has been such a brilliant servant since his joining them. Chambers, who excelled in defensive midfield last season could also be used as a temporary replacement for the Senegalese in the middle of the park where his ranging of passing could benefit the Everton massively.

The former Southampton man is also capable of playing at right-back, an area of some concern for Everton who have lost young Jonjoe Kenny to the Bundesliga on a season-long loan deal. Chambers would add a ton of value thanks to age and quality and Silva could solve multiple problems through a single signing this summer.
