Crystal Palace have been heavily linked with a move for Real Betis’s Victor Camarasa but reports claim the move will not happen.

According to a report from Estadio Deportivo, Victor Camarasa will reject advances from Crystal Palace to fight for a spot at Real Betis next season.

The 25-year-old earned plenty of plaudits during a year on loan at Cardiff City.

Camarasa was one of the Bluebirds’ best players last term, scoring five goals and providing four assists in the Premier League. But his performances weren’t enough to help Neil Warnock’s side stay up.

With Cardiff now in the Championship, a return to South Wales was always a doubt, but Crystal Palace’s proposition could have proved tempting. However, Camarasa wants to prove himself to Betis boss Rubi according to the report and a move back to England is unlikely to happen before the end of the transfer window.

Palace will have to look elsewhere to bolster their midfield and the report claims they will continue speaking to clubs in Spain as they explore their options. The Eagles will look to strengthen their squad in the final week of the transfer window after losing Aaron Wan-Bissaka and potentially Wilfried Zaha in the coming days.

Roy Hodgson’s side finished 12th in the league last season, just three points behind ninth-placed Leicester City. With all their rivals heavily strengthening, Palace will find it hard to compete without fresh faces and Spain has been a happy hunting ground for Premier League teams over the years.

Palace face big-spending Everton, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in their first five games and failure to strengthen in the next week could prove detrimental to their ambitions in the league this season.
