Crystal Palace are on the lookout for a replacement for Aaron Wan Bissaka who made the switch to Manchester United earlier this month.
The Eagles are terribly short on defenders as Roy Hodgson claimed that they have got ‘enormous problems at the back’. Star full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka was sold for massive money to Manchester United and right full-back is an area that needs addressing.
Palace were keen on Norwich City’s Max Aarons and Serie A side Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne according to the report but moves for both players have failed in recent days. Reece James is another option being considered by the Eagles but the youngster’s recent injury could prevent the move from happening.
The report reveals that Hodgson is a huge fan of Arsenal’s Carl Jenkinson, a player who he handed his international debut back in 2012. Jenkinson is below Hector Bellerin and Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the pecking order at the Emirates and his chances of cementing a first-team position is hugely unlikely.
Palace have shown their interest in the 27-year-old but have made it clear to Arsenal that they will not accept Jenkinson as a part of any deal that would see their star Ivorian attacker Wilfried Zaha make the move to North London.
Jenkinson, 27, needs a new challenge to restart his halted career and Palace could be the perfect place where he can get a regular run of games, The former Charlton man, when fully fit, is a very good full-back as evident in his loan spell at West Ham a few years ago and Hodgson could well be the manager who could bring the best out of him next season.
