Arsenal’s chances of signing Real Madrid’s Spanish central midfielder Dani Ceballos could have taken a hit after Marco Asensio’s injury on Tuesday.

Zinedine Zidane was quoted by Mundo Deportivo speaking about Marco Asensio’s injury and the Real Madrid boss confirmed that it didn’t look good.

Zidane told the press after the game that the Spaniard was rushed to the hospital for tests after his collision with Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang just a few minutes after his goal. Asensio scored the leveller against the Gunners who took a 2-0 lead in the first half but Madrid’s impressive comeback was overshadowed by the injury.

“It’s the knee and he has gone to the hospital for tests. We are worried and touched because it looks bad. We lose a player and that is the saddest thing,” said Zidane.

Losing Asensio would be terrible news for the Galacticos ahead of the new season but his injury news could also turn out to be something that would hurt Arsenal in this transfer window.

Unai Emery’s side were heavily linked with completing a deal for Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos after the game (Marca) but if Asensio’s injury proves to be a serious one, Zidane and co could be tempted to keep Ceballos as a backup to their injured Spaniard.

This would be a terrible blow for the Gunners who would miss out on a sensational player in Ceballos to replace Aaron Ramsey who was allowed to join Italian champions Juventus at the end of lasts season.

Both Zidane and Emery will be hoping that Asensio injury isn’t a serious one but if the tests bring out bad results, Arsenal could well have to shift their attention to a different player to occupy the much needed box-to-box role in the centre of their midfield.
