Leeds United confirmed that Marcelo Bielsa will continue as their manager until the end of the 2019/20 season and owner Andrea Radrizzani has delivered his verdict on the club’s official website.

The Peacocks blew a massive chance to attain automatic promotion to the Premier League after a terrible run of form in the final few games of the season.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side took a deserved 1-0 lead against Derby County in the first leg of the play-off semi-final. But a 5-3 defeat in the return fixture meant they will spend another campaign in the Championship.

There were a lot of doubts over the future of Marcelo Bielsa in the aftermath of their defeat, but Leeds fans will be delighted to hear the news that the Argentine will stay for at least another year.

Owner Andrea Radrizzani had a lot of positive things to say about their season and assured that the club will work harder to get back into the Premier League.

He said: “We were close and next season we will work harder to achieve our goal. The players have made me proud every week and the staff at Thorp Arch and Elland Road have gone above and beyond day after day to ensure we are a well-run football club at the heart of the community.”

The Italian also expressed his delight over the number of homegrown players that have come out of their academy over the last two years and thanked the staff, as well as the support from the fans which he claimed to be the best in the country.

“So, let’s have another go. I am delighted that Marcelo has agreed to stay for another year – we have unfinished business. Enjoy your summer and next year once again we all need to give more – the players, the staff and all of the fans because our goal is close,” he concluded.

Bielsa has won 27 out of his 51 games as Leeds’ boss and, with his future at the club confirmed, the Peacocks can have high hopes over promotion to the Premier League at the end of next season.
