Ibrox hero Ally McCoist has delivered a firm message to Newcastle United amid rumours about Steven Gerrard taking over the vacant job at Tyneside.

Newcastle confirmed the departure of Benitez earlier this week and a number of big names have been linked to take over the reign at St James’ Park. Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was tipped to be in contention for the role according to the Telegraph and Ally McCoist has had his say about the rumours.
McCoist, who scored over 250 goals for the Gers in over 400 games, claimed that his former side were the bigger club despite playing in an inferior league.
“Well, Newcastle play in a far better league but I think Rangers are a bigger club,” he said.
“I love the football and the people in the northeast, but what kind of step would it be for Steven Gerrard? But I’m not sure right now it would be a great move for Gerrard to be honest.”

The former Liverpool skipper has definitely had a positive impact on the Gers since taking charge back in May last year. Gerrard has lost just 10 of his 61 games as Rangers boss and with two wins over Old Firm rivals Celtic last season, he could well ruin their party next season.
“He certainly has unfinished business at Rangers. I wish Newcastle the very best in their search for a new manager, but as we would say in Glasgow: ‘Leave ours alone’,” he concluded.
Losing Gerrard would certainly be a huge blow for the Gers as they look to get back their glory days and club legend Ally McCoist’s words would have been heard loud and clear with the Rangers’ board who should at no cost allow their boss to leave the club this summer.
