According to a report in Tutto Mercato Web, AC Milan are looking to make a move for Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Rossoneri are struggling to make it into the top four in the Serie A as they sit three points behind Atalanta with just three games left to play.

However, the report reveals that Milan will work intensively to restructure their squad and especially their defence.

Ignazio Abate and Cristian Zapata are expected to leave the club in the summer while Mattia Caldara’s injury woes has made him an unreliable figure at the San Siro. Milan will need a new defender and Shkodran Mustafi is reportedly an option that they would be willing to pursuit.

Mustafi joined Arsenal when current Milan CEO Ivan Gazidas ran the show at the Emirates a few years ago. Their relationship could potentially play a huge role in the move and the Gunners could well be open to selling the German in the summer after an underwhelming campaign at the Emirates.

Mustafi isn’t new to Serie A having spent a couple of seasons with Sampdoria earlier in his career. A full international for Germany combined with his experience in the Italian top-flight makes him a suitable candidate for Gennaro Gattuso’s side in the summer.

However, Arsenal paid a mammoth £35.3 million for the 27-year-old back in 2016 and the Gunners will be hoping to recoup as much of that fee as possible in the upcoming transfer window.
