The January transfer window is imminent, meaning there are going to be Premier League teams in the market for some new players to bolster their squads.
We’re now halfway through the Premier League season and know the second half of the campaign is when things seriously begin to heat up.
With the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and so many more in the mix for the elusive title – there are bound to be some deals occurring.
So who’s coming in? Who’s leaving the English top-flight? Here are HITC’s predictions for the January transfer window.
Newcastle United to sign David de Gea
Newcastle United are desperate for a keeper following the injury of Nick Pope, so this one just makes sense.
Eddie Howe‘s side have been urged to sign the former Manchester United keeper – who has currently been without a club since Erik ten Hag let him go in the summer.
De Gea would be more than adequate cover in Pope’s absence, and will likely be open to a move back to the Premier League. Although – it will be strange not seeing him in red.
Jadon Sancho to join RB Leipzig
The big Premier League departure of the January transfer window will see Jadon Sancho leave Manchester United.
The English winger has been shunned from the Red Devils first-team squad since his social media call-out to Ten Hag following their Arsenal clash.
There have been rumours about him linking back up with a club in England such as Chelsea or Tottenham, but we think he’s more than likely to go back to the Bundesliga – although only this time at RB Leipzig.
German outlet BILD reported RB Leipzig are set to enter the race to secure his signature. One thing is for sure – he’ll be leaving Old Trafford.
Manchester United to get Serhou Guirassy
With an outgoing at Manchester United – they may be able to finally have the funds to go for a desperately needed striker.
However, they won’t have much money – which means their best bet and option we believe they’ll sign in January is Serhou Guirassy.
Amid interest from a plethora of other Premier League clubs, United are ‘seriously keen’ on the forward, who they so desperately need with goals few and far between this season. We think they’ll get their man, and if not, he’ll be making a move to the Premier League.
Tottenham Hotspur to stick without a striker
Spurs are one of the clubs in for Guirassy, with Ange Postecoglou potentially looking to lure a striker to North London… however, we believe he’ll stick to his guns and go without.
Following the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich in the summer, it looked destined that Spurs would at least get a like-for-like replacement.
However, they’ve thrived without so far. Son Heung-Min has been firing and Richarlison‘s fortunes are beginning to change. We think they’ll wait till the summer for a big signing.
Unai Emery will go for a striker
But one manager who will get a striker has to be Unai Emery. The Turkish coach has his sights firmly set on the Premier League title – and may need reinforcements.
A huge worry for Emery will be if his source of goals this season, Ollie Watkins, sustains an injury. Backup striker Jhon Duran is not cut out to lead the line in a title charge.
This is why we think Emery will get someone in up top – but who it is, remains to be seen.
Ivan Toney to stay put
Finally, to cap off the talk surrounding number nines for the Premier League, we think Ivan Toney, despite several clubs interested will remain at Brentford until at least the end of the season.
The Bees striker is serving a ban for gambling, but he will be back for the second half of the Premier League season. He can officially play again on Wednesday the 17th of January 2024.
With his availability for the latter stages of the campaign, Arsenal among other clubs have emerged as potential buyers – however, we don’t think they’ll take the punt. Although – we do think he’ll move somewhere in the summer.
