Dalby moved to Leeds United from Leyton Orient in January.
While Leeds United’s season is effetively over, that at least provides new boss Paul Heckingbottom with an opportunity to experiment ahead of the new campaign.
Having already hinted at a being handed a ‘mid-table’ summer budget and with several squad players on long-term contracts likely to prove difficult to shift, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to unearth a few gems during the next six weeks.
Lucky for Leeds, they’re never short of talent below the first team, as Kalvin Phillips, Ronaldo Vieira and recent debutant, Tom Pearce, will attest.
And one player surely knocking on the door is January recruit Sam Dalby, who has scored four goals in six outings for Leeds’ Under-23s.
While it’s important to show caution with players of his age (18), the fact that Dalby already has League Two and National League experience behind him (18 appearances) – and is six-feet-three-inches tall – arguably makes him better equipped than most to make an immediate impact at first team level.
And with Pierre-Michel Lasogga likely to need replacing – unless Leeds decide to elevate their rumoured £15,000-a-week wage ceiling – Dalby could potentially save his new employers a fortune this summer.
