Speaking on his podcast, Phil Hay has been discussing Jack Harrison and his potential move to Leicester City that never was.

Harrison was all set to join Leicester on deadline day, gearing up for a medical with the Foxes, but the deal collapsed at the last minute.

Now, Leeds’ plan is to give Harrison a new contract, but they may have to cough up some serious cash to tie him down to new terms.

Indeed, according to Hay, Harrison was being offered a salary in excess of £100,00-a-week at Leicester City, doubling his current reported salary of £50k-a-week.

Harrison was offered big money

The journalist shared what he knows about Harrison’s offer from Leicester.

“They were seriously considering that they might take the money for him, which would’ve been £20m. Harrison stays and he’s still at the club. The plan is to give him a new contract, which, incidentally, will not be at the same level as Leicester were offering. Our understanding is that Leicester would’ve paid him six figures, they’d have given him £100,00-a-week plus,” Hay said.

“It was apparent last week that they were in for him. I never got the sense that Harrison was desperate for the move or agitating for the move or trying to make it happen. If anything he was minded to stay at Leeds. From asking around I don’t think Orta wanted him to go.”

Is he worth it?

Harrison is set to be offered a new deal by Leeds, but as Hay says, it won’t be close to what Leicester put on the table.

The reality is that Harrison probably isn’t a player who is worth £100k-a-week, not to Leeds anyway.

With Luis Sinisterra, Crysencio Summerville, Wilfried Gnonto and now Georgino Rutter at the club, Leeds have a number of quality players who can play Harrison’s position, and handing him wages at that level just wouldn’t make much sense.

Perhaps a summer move will materialise for Harrison if that sort of money is on offer elsewhere.
