New Liverpool signing Joel Matip posted solid stats as his side clashed with Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

The defender is one of a number of new signings to arrive at Anfield this summer as Jurgen Klopp has overhauled his squad.

He has had to wait until this week for his debut after picking up an injury during pre-season.

There is great anticipation among the Liverpool fans about the defender, who are hoping that he can improve what is a problem area in the team.

He was handed his debut on Saturday as his side travelled to White Hart Lane and secured a 1-1 draw.

And as the stats provided by Opta show, he was solid if uninspiring in several areas but did enough to encourage Reds fans about his future in the team.

He managed 54 touches in total, with just one of those proving to be unsuccessful.

He was solid in defence, winning three interceptions – the most of any player in the game – as well as one defensive duel and one aerial duel in total.

In terms of ball recoveries he managed six, as well as posting six effective clearances, the latter of which was the most managing by any Reds player.

His passing was also secure, managing 29 accurate passes in total and an overall passing accuracy of 78% in a solid if uninspiring Premier League debut.
