Newcastle United attacker Moussa Sissoko has suggested he will try and be a better captain in the team’s next game.

Newcastle United attacker Moussa Sissoko has told the Chronicle he feels he showed enough during the game against Arsenal to justify his new role as captain.

Sissoko is the man John Carver selected for the responsibility with Fabricio Coloccini ineligible to play for the side through suspensions at the moment.

He’s commented on the role and has promised fans he will try and up his performance levels looking ahead to the club’s next game.

“I am very happy to be captain I know it is a big responsibility but I think I showed good things which is why the manager make me captain,” said Sissoko.

“I tried to do it on Saturday, but we lost as I am a bit sad. I will try to be better for the next game.”

It’s a crucial part in Newcastle’s season because they are going through a difficult patch where their squad options are limited, mainly because of injuries.

Sissoko is one of the higher profile members of the first team and a player who does lead by example in terms of the way he attacks.

He was tested fully against Arsenal because quite often when matches don’t go as planned, players start looking towards the captain for inspiration and to act as an inspirational figure to pick everyone up.

It’s important the side react and respond well after the international break because the team need to try and pull themselves out of their slump in form.
